Meet the Team

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by our website. If you’re here then you must be a little curious about the folks behind Foyle Bia Mara. Well, we’re a family business consisting of a dad, two daughters and two sons (there is a mother and another daughter, but they’re not relevant here).

The Dad

Liam – the dad – has been in the seafood industry since 1973, long before the rest of the team ever existed. Liam began fishing and relaying mussels in Lough Foyle back in 1996. He then started growing oysters in 2012 on the banks on Lough Foyle.

Liam is the original foodie in our family, having spent his youth watching his mum cook and bake and then learning to cook himself. In the evenings you’ll always find him glued to cooking programs, where he gets a load of inspiration for meals at home.

That's Me

Catherine is me. I’m the one who takes care of all the content writing, admin-y stuff, though I do get stuck into the physical jobs as well. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

I left home at 17 and lived in Northern Ireland, Spain, and South Korea before coming home to get involved in the family business – Godfather style. I got an English degree, taught English as a Foreign Language in Spain and Korea, then went on to study proofreading, editing, and copywriting. I could, and do, eat my way round the globe. Most people make lists of tourist attractions to visit. I make lists of local food I have to experience.

Raymond skippered a well boat for ?? years giving him a wealth of experience tending to live fish

Luke is our media master. He’d his own radio show when he was at school then went on to complete a degree in media. He loves making videos almost as much as he loves eating oysters and mussels.

Food for us is about connection. It’s how we come together as a family. We cook together, using the best ingredients we can source. We grow our own vegetables which we include in our recipes. Sitting round the table is where we connect, where we laugh and joke, and discuss the more serious topics in life. Good food gives us that space.
Lough Foyle is the home of many different varieties of seafood, local food, local flavour. We want to share this local delicacy with the world. To spread joy, build a connection, between local people and the food they eat, to give visitors a unique/special taste of the area.
